It is not easy to convince a loved one that you are trying to help him or her to quit their drug habit. They are always suspicious of you anyway and don’t want to take the chance of accepting any help from you. It is possible that they feel as if you judge them in a negative light and don’t think that your call to help is genuine. It is up to you to convince them that you do have good intentions of getting them into a drug treatment center that will help them to start the journey to recovery.

Your loved one is at a junction in life that means that they are living on the edge when involved with drug addiction. Living on that edge means that they can fall off at any time. The steps that you take to make it clear to your loved one that you mean them well is not going to be something that is easy for someone who has a loved one who is heavily indulged in the habit of abusing drugs.

Sometimes, the drug addict will try to put up a fight and give reasons why he or she is not ready to go rehab. The interventionist is equipped with knowledge and all the tricks in the book that the drug addict will try in order to get out of this life changing commitment. This is why there is a planned pre-intervention phase that informs the family members what will happen when the drug addict is confronted with rehabilitation.

This preparation helps all the family members to react in an understanding way if the drug addict simply refuses treatment. In most cases, the drug addict does accept the treatment after much begging and pleading from their family members and also a stern talk from the interventionist who knows what to say to convince the drug addict that this is the only and best chance he or she has for recovery.

The drug addict will listen and suddenly agree to treatment at which time he or she is whisked off into transportation that had been made ready beforehand and there are times when the location for the drug treatment center is out of town so they have to go to the airport to catch a flight.
Before going to a drug treatment center, the drug addict has the family promise to visit frequently. This is something that is important to the drug addict and will help the entire family unit in this journey to recovery.
